Kids' Dessert Cart Rental
The single most photographed object at a children's party — and the easiest way to make a small party look like an event.
We rent kids' dessert carts — along with kids' tables, chairs and high chairs — for birthdays, fall parties and weddings across New Jersey and New York, and we deliver, set up and pick up. We're not the party planners: you or your planner bring the cake, sweets, drinks and decor; we bring the cart and set it in place.
The Convertible Cart
One cart. Three ways to use it.
- Scalloped awning: the classic sweet-shop look, with fold-out side shelves for extra treats.
- Fringe umbrella: swap the awning for our pink-striped fringe umbrella for a garden, pool or beach-club party. The umbrella is included.
- Open-shelf cart: no topper, open shelving behind, for favors, drinks or a self-serve snack bar.
Crisp white with paneled sides and rolling casters. Delivery, setup and pickup are included.
Request a QuoteIf you rent one thing beyond the seating, rent this. A dessert cart concentrates the party into a single focal point — it's where the cake goes, where the photos happen, and where guests instinctively gather when they arrive and don't yet know what to do with themselves.
It also solves a practical problem: it gets the sweets off the children's table, which keeps the table usable for actual eating and craft.
Our dessert carts, and the kids' tables and chairs that go with them
We rent two looks for the sweets: the white Convertible Cart (scalloped awning, fringe umbrella or open shelves) and our pink dessert cart with a scalloped roof and spoked wheels. Either one can come on its own, or in the same delivery as the seating:
- Kids' tables: The Daisy Table, the Serpentine Table, the Mini Scalloped Oval Table, the Farm Mini Table and the Modern White Kids Table.
- Kids' chairs: the rattan Bow, Rainbow, Loop and Round chairs, the Bow Metal Chair, the Mini Bistro Chair, Classic Chairs, Cross Back Chairs and clear Ghost Chairs.
- High chairs for the birthday baby and the littlest guests.
See the full range on kids' table and chair rentals, rattan kids' chair rental and the Daisy Table. For a first birthday, the cart and a high chair usually travel together: see first birthday party rentals.
What a dessert cart is actually for
- The photo anchor. Nearly every posed shot from a children's party is taken in front of the cart. Style this and you've styled the party.
- Crowd control. Desserts in one defined place, at a height you choose, rather than spread over the kids' table where they're grazed continuously.
- The reveal moment. A cart lets you keep the cake covered and roll it into the room, which lands far better than carrying it from a kitchen.
- Small-party rescue. Twelve guests in an apartment can feel thin. A cart gives the room a center of gravity.
What goes on it
Height, first
Cake stands and risers at three different heights. A flat cart reads as a shelf; a tiered one reads as a display. This is the single biggest difference between a styled cart and a loaded one.
The cake, off-center
Place it slightly to one side rather than dead center. It photographs better and leaves room for the number of candles you'll actually need.
Color in blocks
Group sweets by color rather than scattering them. Blocks read bold from across the room; scatter reads messy.
One savoury counterweight
A kids' charcuterie board nearby stops the cart being a pure sugar station and feeds them during the wait before food.
Something living
A few stems of fresh greenery or fruit. It costs a few dollars and it's what separates a cart that looks styled from one that looks stocked.
Full method in why every kids' party needs a dessert cart (and how to style one).
Where to put it
- Against the wall with the best light — usually the one perpendicular to a window, not opposite it.
- Away from the door. A cart in the entry gets picked at by every arriving guest before the party has started.
- Out of toddler reach if the crowd is under three. At that age, style the cart and keep the children's table simple — the cart is where photos happen anyway.
- With a backdrop behind it. Even a simple one. See our tissue paper flower wall or foam board backdrop.
A children's dessert cart at a wedding does something unexpected: it gives the kids a destination of their own, which keeps them off the dance floor at the wrong moments and out of the adult dessert table. Pair it with a styled kids' table — see the kids' table, reimagined.
A fall hot cocoa and cider station on the dessert cart
Hot cocoa and cider stations are one of the most-searched fall and winter party ideas, and they carry straight through Thanksgiving and the December holidays. The Convertible Cart set up as an open-shelf cart is made for it: drinks and cups on the shelves, toppings in small jars, and the awning or umbrella on top if you want the sweet-shop look.
- Keep it self-serve. Older kids love topping their own cup; set the toppings in color blocks, the same way you would the sweets.
- Hot drinks up high. If the crowd is under three, keep anything warm on the top shelf and let the grown-ups pour.
- Seat them after. A cocoa station works best next to a kids' table and chairs, so the cups land on a table at their height instead of a lap.
You or your planner bring the cocoa, cider, cups and toppings; we deliver the cart, set it up and collect it the next day. For a fall birthday, see our fall birthday party rentals and first birthday party rentals pages, and for the last weekends of October, our Halloween party rentals.
Thanksgiving, Friendsgiving and December: the dessert cart for the holidays
Pies and cookies on the dessert cart, the kids at a table their own size. Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, and one delivery can cover the long weekend if you're hosting Friendsgiving too. In December the same cart works as a hot cocoa bar, a cookie-decorating station or the sweets for a Noon Year's Eve countdown.
- Measure the way in. Tell us about stairs, elevators and doorway widths when you ask for a quote, so the cart rolls straight in on the day.
- Pair it with the kids' table. See our Thanksgiving kids' table rental or everything on the holiday kids' party rentals page.
- Holiday weekends book first. Hold your date while we finalize the quote.
We bring the cart, set it up and collect it; the pies, cookies, cocoa and decor come from you or your planner.
Booking
Dessert carts are booked as an add-on to a chair and table rental, or on their own for events where seating is already handled. Delivery, setup and collection are included. Tell us your date, venue and palette on our quote page and we'll confirm availability — usually the same day. Want the date first? Hold your date and we'll finish the quote after.
Frequently asked questions
Do you have a dessert cart with an awning or umbrella?
Yes. Our new Convertible Cart can be set up three ways: with a scalloped awning, with a pink-striped fringe umbrella (included), or as an open-shelf cart. Tell us your theme when you request a quote and we'll set it up the way that fits your party.
Can I rent a dessert cart for a kids' party?
Yes. We rent children's dessert carts across New Jersey and New York, either as an add-on to a chair and table rental or on their own when seating is already handled. Delivery, setup and collection are included.
How do you style a dessert cart?
Build height first with cake stands and risers at three different levels, place the cake slightly off-center, group sweets in blocks of color rather than scattering them, add one savoury element such as a snack board nearby, and finish with fresh greenery or fruit.
Where should the dessert cart go at a party?
Against the wall with the best light — usually the one perpendicular to a window rather than opposite it — and away from the entrance, where arriving guests will graze it before the party starts. Put a backdrop behind it, since this is where most photos are taken.
Can I use the dessert cart as a hot cocoa or cider station?
Yes. Set up as an open-shelf cart, the Convertible Cart works for drinks or a self-serve snack bar, so it suits a fall hot cocoa or cider station. You or your planner bring the drinks, cups and toppings; we deliver the cart and set it up.
Do you supply the desserts, drinks or decor?
No. We're not the party planners: we rent the kids' dessert carts, tables, chairs and high chairs, deliver them and set them up. The cake, sweets, drinks and decor come from you or your planner.
Can I hold my date before the quote is final?
Yes. Hold My Date sets your party date aside while we finalize your quote, and the hold is credited toward your rental.
Do dessert carts work at weddings?
Yes, and they work particularly well. A children's dessert cart gives young guests a destination of their own, which keeps them away from the adult dessert table and off the dance floor at the wrong moments. It pairs naturally with a styled kids' table.
Which dessert carts do you rent?
Two: the white Convertible Cart, which sets up with a scalloped awning, a pink-striped fringe umbrella or as an open-shelf cart, and our pink dessert cart with a scalloped roof. Both are delivered, set up and picked up by our team.
Can I rent a dessert cart for Thanksgiving or a holiday party?
Yes. We deliver 365 days a year, including the Thanksgiving weekend and December. The cart pairs well with a kids' table for the holiday meal, and because holiday weekends book first, Hold My Date can set your date aside while we finalize the quote.
Can the dessert cart come in the same delivery as the kids' tables and chairs?
Yes. Most dessert carts go out as an add-on to a kids' table and chair rental: delivered and set up together, and picked up together. Tell us about stairs, elevators and doorway widths when you request your quote.
