Will It Rain on My Party?
Pick your area and your party date. Inside a week you'll get the real forecast; further out, what that month normally does — plus what we'd actually do about it.
The rain plan, decided properly
The single most useful thing you can do about weather is decide your plan B when you book, not the night before. Three options work:
- The garage. Underrated. Sweep it, open the door, and it's a covered pavilion with power. Kid-height tables fit easily where banquet tables wouldn't.
- A covered patio or porch. Best of both — dry, but still feels like an outdoor party.
- Indoors, clustered. Shorten the table configuration and group it. Toddlers behave better in contained space anyway.
Then put the plan on the invitation. “Rain or shine — we'll move inside” takes ten words and saves you fifteen phone calls on the morning.
We set up wherever the party is actually happening. Tell us your plan B when you book and we'll allow time for either configuration — it doesn't change the price, but it does change how we schedule the delivery window.
Typical conditions by month
Averages for the New Jersey / New York metro corridor. Philadelphia runs a couple of degrees warmer; Long Island and the shore run slightly cooler in summer and milder in winter.
| Month | Avg high | Avg low | Wet days | What we'd advise |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 40°F | 27°F | ~10 days | Indoors. Plan the whole party inside and use the season — see our winter guide. |
| February | 43°F | 29°F | ~9 days | Indoors. Short daylight, so aim for a late-morning slot. |
| March | 51°F | 35°F | ~11 days | Indoor with an outdoor option. Genuinely unpredictable — hold both plans. |
| April | 62°F | 45°F | ~11 days | Outdoor is realistic but have a covered plan B. Ground can still be soft. |
| May | 72°F | 55°F | ~11 days | Peak outdoor season. Book early — this is our busiest month. |
| June | 81°F | 64°F | ~10 days | Excellent. Watch for afternoon thunderstorms; morning slots are safest. |
| July | 86°F | 70°F | ~10 days | Hot. Site the seating in shade and consider a 10am start over 2pm. |
| August | 84°F | 69°F | ~9 days | Hot and humid. Shade is not optional — a table in full sun empties in ten minutes. |
| September | 77°F | 62°F | ~8 days | The best month of the year for an outdoor kids' party. Warm, dry, golden light. |
| October | 65°F | 50°F | ~8 days | Beautiful. Bring the party earlier in the day — it's dark by 6pm. |
| November | 54°F | 40°F | ~9 days | Indoors, or a short outdoor window at midday. Thanksgiving week books out by late October. |
| December | 45°F | 33°F | ~10 days | Indoors. Cozy-lodge styling beats icy-blue in a crowded warm room. |
The two best months, if you have a choice
September is the best month of the year for an outdoor children's party in this region — warm, the fewest wet days, and low golden light from about 4pm that makes every photograph better. May is a close second and books out fastest.
The two to be most careful with are March, which is genuinely unpredictable and needs both plans held, and August, where heat rather than rain is the risk — a beautifully styled table in full afternoon sun empties in ten minutes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best month for an outdoor kids' party in NJ?
September, followed by May. September averages a high around 77°F with the fewest wet days of the year and the best late-afternoon light. May is warm and reliably dry but books out fastest.
How far ahead can I check the weather for my party?
Reliable forecasts extend about seven days. This tool shows the live National Weather Service forecast within that window, and typical conditions for the month beyond it. Anything more specific than that more than a week out isn't real forecasting.
What should my rain plan be for a kids' party?
Decide it when you book, not the night before. The three workable options are a garage, a covered patio, or indoors with the tables shortened and clustered. Tell guests the plan on the invitation so nobody has to be called on the morning.
Do you still deliver if it rains?
Yes. We set up wherever the party is happening — indoors, under cover, or in a garage. Tell us your plan B when you book so we allow the right time and bring the right configuration.
