DIY Layered Centerpiece Risers for a Kids Party Table

Height makes a party table look professionally styled—but on a children’s table, tall centerpieces can block faces and make conversation awkward. The trick is creating layers without creating a wall.
What you’ll need
- Two or three sturdy lightweight boxes or foam blocks
- Wrapping paper, removable fabric covers or cardstock
- Low faux florals, signs or theme props
- Non-slip shelf liner for underneath
Step 1: Build three heights
Create a low, medium and slightly taller level. Keep the tallest element below the children’s eye line when seated.
Step 2: Cover the risers
Wrap each riser in one neutral material or colors from your palette. Clean, repeated finishes look more expensive than mixing several patterns.
Step 3: Place the largest piece first
Set your main floral, sign or themed object on the medium riser, then add smaller details around it. Leave open space between pieces so the table can breathe.
Step 4: Test the table from chair height
Sit or crouch to the height of the children and make sure every guest can see across the table. Also check that nothing is easy to tip.
Styling note
For outdoor parties, keep everything low and stable and check PartyCast before setup, especially when wind is expected.
