How Many Kids' Chairs and Tables Do You Need for Your Party?

It's the first question every parent asks us — and the honest answer is that it's easier than you think. A little planning around your guest list means every child has a seat for cake time, and your party photos look effortlessly put together.
Start with your little guest list
Count only the children who will actually sit — typically ages 1 to 10. Babies stay in laps and tweens often prefer standing room with the adults. Once you have that number, add two or three extra seats. There is always a cousin who arrives unannounced, and an empty chair is far better than a missing one.
The simple seating formula
- Up to 10 children: two kids' tables with 8–10 chairs keeps everyone together in one adorable scene.
- 10–20 children: three to four tables arranged in a row or a U-shape — wonderful for group photos.
- 20+ children: multiple table groupings by age, so toddlers and big kids each have their own comfortable zone.
Think about the shape of the moment
A long, single line of tables photographs beautifully for themed tablescapes and makes cake time feel like a royal banquet. Separate clusters work better in smaller rooms and let energetic little ones spread out. If a dessert cart is your centerpiece, leave a clear sightline to it — that's the photo everyone takes home.
Don't forget the grown-ups' view
Leave at least a few feet of walking room around the children's tables so parents can help with plates and snap photos without squeezing through. If your party is outdoors, ask us about placement — we set up on grass, patios and indoor floors all the time and will make sure every chair sits steady.
Still unsure? Tell us your guest count and venue, and we'll recommend the exact setup — it's what we do every weekend across New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
