A Little Witches & Wizards Halloween Kids' Table

Mini Chairs Atelier · Published October 2026

Too old for the pastel pumpkins, too young for the truly spooky stuff: for six-to-ten-year-olds, a witches-and-wizards table hits the sweet spot. Midnight colors, a sky full of paper stars, and a kids' table where every seat feels like a spell-casting station.

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and the big party weekend is the one before it, October 24–25. If your crowd is in the early grade-school years, a witches-and-wizards theme is easy to pull off at home: it is dressed-up rather than scary, it works for every costume in the room, and almost all of it comes together on the kids' table. (Planning for toddlers instead? Our not-scary Halloween table is the gentler version.)

A quick word on who does what. We're not the party planners — we rent the kids' tables, chairs and dessert carts, and we deliver, set up and pick them up. The moons, stars and treats below are ideas for you or your planner.

The palette: midnight, plum and silver

Skip the orange-and-black aisle and go one shade deeper: navy or charcoal for the base, plum or deep purple as the accent, and silver or soft gold for the stars. It photographs beautifully at a daytime party and still feels magical when the lights go down at an evening one.

Setting the table

Think of each place setting as a little witch's or wizard's desk. A rolled “spell scroll” tied with ribbon becomes the place card (first initials only if you plan to share photos). A small black pot or paper cup becomes a cauldron for popcorn or pretzels. Pretzel rods dipped in chocolate and rolled in sprinkles make edible wands, and they double as a favor. Keep tall decor at the ends of the table so children can see each other across it.

If you are renting a kids' dessert cart, park it at one end of the table as the “potion shop”: jars of purple and green candy, the cake, and the wands in a tall cup. Your planner or a grown-up can style it; the kids just need to be able to reach it.

Three activities that keep them at the table

  1. Wand decorating

Plain wooden dowels with sanded ends, ribbon, washi tape and star stickers. Set a tray in front of every two seats. Ten minutes of decorating means ten minutes of children sitting down, and every guest leaves with a wand.

  2. Fizzing potions

A spoon of baking soda in each cup, a squeeze bottle of vinegar tinted with food coloring, and a rimmed tray under every cup. Best for ages six and up, with a grown-up pouring for the younger ones. Do this one before the cake, not after.

  3. Spellbook coloring

Moon-and-star coloring sheets as placemats keep early arrivals busy. Our DIY coloring placemats shows how to make them; a cup of crayons per two children is plenty.

Want a fall-friendly extra? A mini pumpkin painting station in silver and purple fits the theme, and candy corn treat cups work as cauldron fillers.

How many chairs and tables to book

Count the children who will sit and add two seats for the friend who brings a sibling. Up to about ten children fit at one long table; ten to twenty work well in a row or a U-shape; above twenty, split by age so the six-year-olds and the ten-year-olds each get their own table. The full method is in our how many kids' chairs and tables guide.

Halloween party weekend 2026

October 24–25 is the weekend most families celebrate, and it fills first. A Saturday-morning or early-afternoon party on the 31st itself is also realistic this year, before trick-or-treating starts. If you are booking a Halloween party, code THANKS10 takes 10% off through November 30. See our Halloween party rentals page for more table and chair ideas, or hold your date while you finish the guest list.

Frequently asked questions

What age is a witches and wizards Halloween party best for?

It suits roughly ages six to ten: dressed-up and magical rather than scary. For toddlers and first birthdays, a pastel, not-scary Halloween table is usually a better fit.

What chairs work for a witches and wizards kids' table?

Black rattan chairs set the midnight mood, clear ghost chairs keep a small room feeling open, and natural wood cross back chairs give a cozy storybook look. All come in kid sizes.

How many children fit at one kids' table?

Up to about ten children fit comfortably at one long kids' table. For ten to twenty, use a row or a U-shape; above twenty, split the tables by age.

Do you decorate the table?

No. We're not the party planners. We rent kids' tables, chairs, high chairs and dessert carts and deliver, set up and pick them up; the decor comes from your family or your planner.

Is there still time to book for Halloween weekend?

Often, yes, but October 24 and 25 fill first. Send your date, town and number of children, or hold your date while you finish the guest list.
