Pastel first birthday setup with children’s rental tables and chairs
A child-sized table creates a welcoming place for the youngest guests.

A first birthday includes a wide mix of guests: babies, toddlers, older siblings and adults. The best seating plan does not force everyone into one arrangement. Instead, it creates a small, visible children’s zone that feels special while remaining easy for parents to supervise.

Decide who needs a child-sized seat

Start with independently sitting toddlers and young children. Babies may remain in high chairs or with caregivers, while older siblings may be comfortable at the children’s table depending on its height. Confirm the final count shortly before the event.

Use one clear table shape

A straight rectangular table is easy to place and photograph. Position the birthday child near the center or at the end where parents and photographers can reach them without moving other guests.

Leave generous circulation space

Allow room behind the chairs for adults to help with food, candles and cleanup. Keep the setup away from pools, stairs, open flames, heaters and heavy décor. Do not crowd place settings with tall centerpieces or fragile accessories.

Create zones for the party timeline

Match the furniture to the palette

White tables pair easily with soft pastels, neutrals and bold themes. Choose chair colors that repeat one tone from the invitation or décor. Browse our collections and rental gallery for options.

Helpful tip: Ask your planner or venue to mark the children’s table location before delivery. That avoids last-minute movement after place settings or décor have been installed.

Plan around the weather

If the first birthday is outdoors, check PartyCast and identify an indoor or covered backup location. Heat and direct sun matter just as much as rain for very young guests.
